Elizabeth Hubbard (also referred to as Hobert), a widow, confessed to maleficium involving her family and she claimed to have three imps who appeared to her as children.

The accusers of Elizabeth Hobert included William Manning, John Hayward, Richard Foreman, William Keeble, and Stearne. Surviving records show that Thomas Scapey, Israel Barrell, William Manning, and John Hayward collected the town rate of £23 0s 6d to fund the witch-hunt and William Wadge was paid 9s 6d for hosting Hopkins.

It was claimed that Elizabeth Hobert had entered into a covenant with the Devil thirty years earlier and had wished harm upon her cousin, who died three days after her interrogation. Hobert was ultimately found ignoramus. She may be the same woman listed as a parish alms recipient in 1649.
